Storms And River Front Ice

This week I attempted to go hiking yet ran into the snow pack again so I retreated down to the Yellowstone River for some easy photographic work and captured these shots.

There is something about a lonely tree that I like.

The snow is still formidable along the Yellowstone River with the Absaroka-Beartooth Mountain Range
in the background.

Looking across the river eastward.

And looking north along the Yellowstone River.

These photos are from two weeks ago when I went for a drive into the Paradise Valley and could not get into the hiking trail where I was headed on account of the snow still way to deep for my truck to traverse.
I was lucky I did not as a vicious storm moved in from the west. The thermometer dropped 20 degrees in just ten minutes and in came the howling wind with hail and snow. I sat on a overlook and captured the front of the storm.

The storm was like a monster movie.

Two shots I photoshoped together to give a better impression of the storm front.

Hiking around Livingston And The Bridger Mountains

This week I took my camera off still mode and put it on
movie mode and shot some footage of my daily work out hike
here in Livingston and then my weekly longer hike up in the Bridger Range
out of Bozeman on the Sypes trail.

Enjoy

Winter Fishing And HikingA In Montana

Hello Folks,
this week I shall take to my favorite fishing spot along the Yellowstone River in Paradise Valley, Montana, and then a hike in the Bridger Mountain Range outside of Bozeman, Montana.
It has been a good winter with the snow coming and going and it plays easy upon my old wore out knees and back. Enjoy!

A Bald Eagle soars above the Yellowstone River with the Absaroka-Beartooth Range in the backdrop.

The path into my favorite fishing spot. Follow me with this quicktime below.

I was not the only one out on the river. We have a fellow fly fishing with rubber pants and another guy fishing off a drift boat. No motors are allowed upon the Yellowstone River keeping it pristine.

The fruits of my labor: A large rainbow trout. I usually pick up the lemon and do
all the cleaning and the little wife does the dressing for this fine eating.

My trail was a little steep and icy at points. Not for the squeamish!

This is the entrance to the trailhead... would not want anybody to go
onto private property now would you?

Livingston, Montana Mid Winter In Color and Black And White

And now some color

My favorite fishing spot off to the right. It is a little inlet
that a lot of bid daddy fish congregate in.

At the spot!

Yellowstone River looking North back towards Livingston

It is a little hairy going out to fish this time of year as one could slip and go swimming.

Looking North towards Livingston and the gap between the mountains.

When a large train comes through town there is only one way across and that is down this road and under a bridge.

This is the end of the tunnel going into downtown Livingston

Coming out of the tunnel.

Lots of interesting houses n the town.

Believe me the side walks are way hazardous with all the ice. Better to walk in the street.

This is a large pond frozen over in Sacajawea Park.

As good students of history we all know the story of Sacajawea and her baby as she served as guide and interpreter for the Lewis and Clark expedition. Her is a statue in the local park named after her.

Some wild ducks and geese were hanging out along the open and calm Yellowstone River bank.

I believe this track use to run into the Yellowstone National Park.

This track is heading West towards Bozeman.
